Paw Patrol on Nick Jr

Well my son is always going on about this Paw Patrol show and wants it on whenever he is round so I thought I'd best see what it was about as I don't like either of my kids to watch shows which I feel are not in some way or other educational or beneficial to their development in form or other.

The show itself is based on a group of six rescue dogs, led by Ryder who is typical tech savvy hero type and the group have various adventures each episode, in fact here's what Wikipedia has to say about it:

A tech-savvy boy named Ryder leads a pack of seven dogs: Chase, Marshall, Rubble, Rocky, Zuma, Skye and Everest (the last of which was added to the team in season two). With a unique blend of stunts, pop culture references and lots of child-friendly humor, the PAW Patrol works together on high-stakes rescue missions to protect the city of Adventure Bay. Their most frequent caller is a fisherman named Cap'n Turbot, who knows a lot about the ocean and loves hanging out with the pups.

From Marshall the firedog to Chase the police pup to Skye the pilot; each pup brings unique personality and skill to the team, modelling the importance of teamwork and good citizenship. They all have special Pup Packs on their backs to help them handle anything - from repairing boats to saving a train from a rock slide. And no matter how big the adventure, the PAW Patrol always has time for a game, a laugh, and an ear scratch from Ryder.

So I sat down with him one Saturday morning to watch an episode and see what all the fuss was about. My son instantly fell silent and his eyes were glued to the screen, something I always find slightly alarming and soothing at the same time!

The show was not as tedious as I first expected, the animation is excellent and the actors who do the voices for the dogs do a pretty good job bringing them to life. Having worked at the NHS for a number of years I also like the fact the show heavily gives props to critical services such as Ambulance, Fire fighters, police etc., while at the same time teaching kids about teamwork and helping others.

Ryder and his gang are good role models and always ready to lend a hand when they can, using the power of teamwork and problem solving which I feel is good to instil in young children.

There are a few episodes which are on the scarier side about ghosts or aliens with lots of spooky music and suspense which may frighten the slightly younger children but the aliens or ghosts always turn out to be dogs wearing sheets or something equally benign

The show is also full of awesome vehicles that the patrol use to great effect, something my son absolutely loves and once the show has finished will happily play with his cars, bikes, trucks and other vehicles re-enacting the show totally immersed in his own Paw Patrol world

All in all I was actually quite impressed by the show and would recommend it to other parents thinking about letting the kids watch it. My son has definitely got his wish and I have time to make a cup of coffee and drink it while the show is on which has got to be a blessing!

Paw Patrol Toys

As with anything these days there are a ton of 'extras' that the kids get bombarded with and this show is no different, in fact if i was to be a little cynical could say it was geared up for the merchandising from the get go but I'm not and think it's a great show. However there are a lot of toys which is either a good or bad thing depending on your view point, mine I feel it's good as it means I know exactly what to get my boy for Christmas which is just around the corner.

Luckily he doesn't look at my web site so he won't see this but he will be definitely be getting the following Paw Patrol toys this Christmas, so he can recreate the show to his heart's content.

Paw Patrol Lookout Play Set

Rescue Racers 3pk Vehicle Set: Chase, Zuma, Ryder

When I get my hands on the toys I'll update this review with my findings on them
